Guitars and a new song
Well, Dave came over tonight and laid down the perfect stuff for the first song. After that, I essentially wrote the next song. I know this seems very anti-climatic, but I'm waiting until I've passed the test and done the whole she-bang before I post links to the music. Work with me here...my thinking is that an album should be released as a whole, not a bunch of singles.

Past 1 AM....first song mostly done....
Well, yes, it is going on 1:30 AM, but my first song of the week is done, except that I want my man Dave to come over and record a guitar solo tomorrow. I feel like I've made a good start on this project. The only question now is whether or not I can actually finish it...
What am I doing this week?
Looking at a week off from work, trying to think of ways to occupy my time creatively, I have decided to attempt to write, record and post what amounts to an album's worth of music. When I was in a working band, the most common bitch was that we never had enough time to devote to our art...so, now that I have some time, I'm going to try to make use of it.
I'm not going to be so conceited as to think that any of these songs will be very good, or any good at all even. The main problem I can foresee is that I will get bogged down in the minutiae, as I have a tendency to do. In order for this to work, I need to stay focused on this goal I have set. So, how to define the goal, exactly? It seems to me the criteria should be simple...but what is an album anymore? I will define it this way...
An album is a set of songs, written and recorded in a set time frame (in this case, one week). Further, it seems to me that an album should be no less than 45 minutes total run-time. It should be a sonic journey, an experience...but that is hard to quantify. Also, it seems to me that it should consist of no fewer than seven songs. Six songs feels more like an EP to me, so I will set the goal as a collection of no fewer than seven songs, with a total run-time of no less than 45 minutes, all written and recorded in the given time frame of THIS WEEK.
Therefore, my goal is to have this dubious and hastily conceived collection of songs posted, in its final glory, by midnight of November 9, 2009. I will post updates as to where and when these tracks are available, and yes, they will all be free to listen to and download. I have no illusions of making money here. I may also post pics of the whole recording process, if I can actually spare a moment to pick up the camera. Links to any pics will be duly noted as well.
So, with all of that being said, I will go now and pick up my guitar, or bass or my notebook, and see what falls out of my head when I shake it really hard...Andy
